• Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on March 4, 2023, to make Tehsil Mauganj of Rewa district the 53rd district of the state.
• It will have four tehsils – Mauganj, Hanumana, Naigarhi and Devtalab with a population of more than six lakhs.
• CM Chouhan also transferred an amount of Rs 605 crore as assistance to the bank accounts of 27,310 beneficiaries under the Sambal scheme.

• Karnataka defeated Meghalaya 3-2 in the final of the 76th National football championship also known as “the Hero Santosh Trophy” at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh on 4 March 2023.
• This is the first trophy for Karnataka since 1968-69.
• The last time they won the trophy as the princely state of Mysore.
• This is the fourth time that the state won this trophy.

• Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the 2022 BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year award on 5 March 2023.
• She becomes the first athlete to win the award twice in a row after winning for the year 2021.

• BBC Para Sportswoman of the Year went to Bhavina Patel while Pritam Siwach was conferred with the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award.
• Siwach was the first woman hockey coach to be given the Dronacharya Award.
• Boxer Nitu Ghanghas was chosen as the BBC Emerging Player of the Year.

• Madhya Pradesh Government on 5 March 2023, launched the ‘Ladli Bahna Scheme’ to make women financially independent.
• The scheme aims to increase the economic independence of women in the state, improving their health and nutritional status.
• Under the scheme, Rs 1,000 per month will be deposited in the accounts of the native women of the state in the age group of 23 to 60 years.
• The benefit of this scheme will be given only to women whose annual family income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh or who have less than five acres of land.
• The Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana is launched in the state with the goals of enhancing women’s economic independence, improving their health and nutrition status and expanding their influence over family decisions.

• Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya released the book ‘India’s Vaccine Growth Story – From Cowpox to Vaccine Maitri.’
• The book was unveiled at World Book Fair 2023, Pragati Maidan.
• The book is authored by Sajjan Singh Yadav, Additional Secretary, Govt of India.
• The book elaborates on India’s impressive achievement in developing, producing, and distributing COVID-19 vaccines.
• Dr. Mandaviya stated that “India administered 2.2 billion doses as a part of the world’s largest COVID vaccination drive without any shortages across the nation resulted in saving 3.4 million lives.”

• The Indian Navy on 5 March 2023 successfully test-fired in the Arabian Sea the ship-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic missile.
• The missile that was tested had the indigenous seeker and booster.
• BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an India-Russian joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.
• In January last year, India sealed a USD 375 million deal with the Philippines for supplying three batteries of the missile.

• The United Nations has inked the first ‘High Seas Treaty’ in a bid to protect the ocean bodies of the world that lie outside the national boundaries and form almost two-thirds of the world’s oceans.
• It now brings 30% of the world’s oceans into the protected domain.
• The last international agreement on ocean protection was signed 40 years ago in 1982 – the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
• The  High Seas Treaty now places 30 percent of the world’s international waters into protected areas (MPAs) by 2030.
• The treaty amongst other things will put a restriction on how much fishing can be done on the high seas.

• Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and four Sikkim ministers on Monday released a unique cover of the Department of Posts, ‘Go Green, Go Organic’ for Sikkim. 
• Sikkim has the title of the ‘first 100% organic state’ in the world.
• The state has also won the prestigious Future Policy Gold Award from the UN Food and Agriculture.
• The union minister further said, 75,000 hectares of land were converted to organic farmlands.
• All of Sikkim’s farmlands are certified organic, and this has benefited more than 66,000 farming families.

• Uttar Pradesh govt on 5 March 2023, announced to waive road tax and registration fees on the purchase of Electric Vehicles (EVs) to promote electric vehicles.
• As per the UP Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, a 100 percent tax exemption will be given on electric vehicles (EVs) sold and registered in Uttar Pradesh from October 14, 2022, to October 13, 2025.
• As per the government, these EVs will be all automobiles that are powered by batteries, ultracapacitors, or fuel cells.
•  According to the policy, a 15 per cent subsidy will also be given on the factory price of electric vehicles purchased in the State.
